How to Keep Yourself Safe from the New Coronavirus

With the ongoing threat of the new coronavirus, protecting yourself and others is crucial. Here are key measures you can take to reduce your risk of infection:

1. Wear Masks When Outdoors

Wearing a disposable face mask is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself from the coronavirus. Ensure your mask fits properly by tightening the nose clip and pulling the bottom of the mask over your chin, fully covering both your nose and mouth.

If you experience symptoms such as fever, fatigue, cough, or difficulty breathing, wearing a mask is essential to prevent spreading the virus to others. However, surgical masks used by medical professionals are not recommended for everyday use by the general public, as prolonged use may cause oxygen deficiency.

2. Cover Your Coughs and Sneezes Properly

Always cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. If a tissue is unavailable, cough or sneeze into your sleeve rather than your hands to minimize the spread of germs.

3. Practice Frequent and Proper Handwashing

Regular handwashing is vital in preventing infection. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 15 seconds, especially:

  • Before eating

  • After using the restroom

  • After returning home from outside

  • After handling trash or garbage

  • After contact with animals or animal waste

4. Strengthen Your Immune System Through Regular Exercise

Maintaining a strong immune system helps your body fight off infections. Engage in regular physical activity as part of your routine to boost your overall health.

5. Ensure Good Ventilation and Avoid Crowded Places

Keep shared spaces well-ventilated to reduce the concentration of airborne viruses. Avoid crowded locations such as hospitals, railway stations, and airports when possible. If you must travel or move through crowded areas, always wear a mask.

6. Seek Medical Attention Promptly

If you develop symptoms like fever or respiratory difficulties, seek medical help immediately to receive appropriate care and help prevent further spread.

7. Maintain Safe Distance from Sick Individuals

Avoid close contact with people showing flu-like symptoms, such as coughing and sneezing, to reduce your chances of contracting the virus.

8. Handle Food Safely

Eat thoroughly cooked meat and eggs. Avoid contact with wild animals or farmed livestock unless you are properly protected.
