What is Scrub Suit for?

A scrubs suit is a type of medical clothing worn by healthcare workers who are involved in the cleaning, disinfecting and decontamination of areas that have been contaminated with microorganisms. A scrub suit is designed to provide protection against the microorganisms found on surfaces that may be contaminated during the cleaning process. They also help protect workers from contact with blood and other potentially infectious material. Scrub suits can be made of any number of materials, including cotton, nylon, rubber or vinyl.

Typically, scrub suits come in two types, one that covers the front and back of the body, and another that covers the top and bottom only (think full-body coveralls). In addition to protecting healthcare workers from contamination during clean up, they also help to guard against cross-contamination. Not only does this mean that healthcare workers don’t accidentally put their hands on an area that was not cleaned properly, but it also means that they don’t inadvertently expose themselves to material that was not cleaned properly because they touched something else before coming into contact with the contaminated item.

Aside from being a form of personal protection, scrub suits are also used to protect equipment and supplies. Many organizations require healthcare workers to wear a scrub suit in order to minimize risk of contamination exposure from equipment/supplies used on site.
